Are you joining one of our surf + yoga retreats in Galicia and thinking about staying a bit longer around Laxe or elsewhere in the province of A Coruña? Then check out my top picks for the best places to stay in A Coruña, especially for women who love nature, the ocean, and slow travel.
Most of them are close to surf spots with one exception: Santiago de Compostela. Even so, Santiago is absolutely worth a visit, so I’ve included it too.
A Coruña: both a city and a province in Galicia (Spain)
To make it clear: A Coruña is both a coastal city and a province in the autonomous region of Galicia, in north-west Spain.
The city of A Coruña sits right on the Atlantic Ocean, where you can enjoy urban life (cute boutiques!), beaches, surf spots, and long seaside promenades. It has quite a relaxed rhythm and a great food scene.
- Compared to Madrid, with its 3.5 million inhabitants, A Coruña is much smaller, with around 250,000 people.
- The city is still vibrant—especially around the marina and the city centre, and you’ll find great surf shops and coffee spots, such as Vazva.
- At the same time, it feels far more manageable and intimate, so perfect for solo female travellers and digital nomads.
- You’ll find city beaches like Riazor and Orzán within walking distance of the centre, as well as surf schools where you can get a lesson or rent a board.
The province of A Coruña
The province of A Coruña is much larger and more rural, stretching along a rugged coastline with fishing villages, wild beaches, cliffs, forests, and small surf towns.
A Coruña Airport / La Coruña Airport
The area is served by A Coruña / La Coruña Airport (LCG), located about 8 km from the city centre. It mainly offers domestic flights (for example to Madrid and Barcelona), with onward connections to international destinations.
Many travellers also use Santiago de Compostela Airport (SCQ), about an hour away, which has a wider range of international flights.

Galicia: welcoming, wild and peaceful
Even if you’re not coming to Galicia for one of our surf + yoga retreats, A Coruña province is an incredibly beautiful place to slow down, connect with nature, and enjoy the ocean. You’ll feel welcome, safe, and grounded.
For female travellers and surfers in particular, A Coruña province makes it easy to travel solo while feeling at ease. It’s the kind of place that invites you to stay longer, breathe deeper, and maybe even start planning your return before you’ve left. 😉
